This webinar is ideal for farmers, farm managers, and anyone responsible for building and leading a farm crew, particularly for those at the beginning of hiring and managing crew (3-5 years or under).

Running a successful farm business means growing more than crops.  It means growing a strong, motivated team.  Join North Olympic Development Council and WSU Extension Regional Small Farms Program for "Labor on the Farm" with Emily Asmus of Welcome Table Farm and Seth Hunt from the North Olympic Development Council (NODC) as Part One of a two-part series on farm employee management. The experienced guest speakers will dig into practical strategies for hiring, managing, and supporting farm employees.

Participants will:
-Learn how to write compelling job descriptions.
-Recruit the right employees and build a positive, productive workplace culture.
-Participate in an interactive breakout session to share real-world challenges and successes around hiring, firing, and retaining employees.
-Learn how to turn past management struggles into tools for better leadership and a stronger farm team.

Guest Speaker Info:

Emily Asmus of Welcome Table Farm, Walla Walla, WA
Emily Asmus has been a volunteer, intern, apprentice, employee, and farm manager on her way to being the owner and operator of Welcome Table Farm. Now starting its 19th season, Welcome Table Farm grows and sells mixed vegetables, cut flowers, and pastured livestock in Walla Walla. Emily loves the forever shifting puzzle of the farm systems- especially those that involve people. She strives to be a good manager and run a profitable business by creating a workplace that supports others in their desire to farm.

Seth Hunt, North Olympic Development Council
Seth Hunt has been working in the world of small farming since 2010, and has held many roles in farm labor including field crew management, equipment maintenance, quality control, and farmers market sales. In 2015 he co-created the Traction! conference in Olympia that centered farm workers and anti-oppression awareness in farm ownership. As a small business owner, hes also had the difficult experience of hiring labor on the Olympic Peninsula.
