Winter Talk 2023

Phillips Theological Seminary
Tulsa, OK
Online and In-Person Event

Sales have ended for this event.

The eighth annual Winter Talk is a three day conversation on the Doctrine of Discovery and its influence on Christian theology and polity, with an emphasis on the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) relationship with Indigenous tribes and peoples. Hosted by Center for Indigenous Ministries (DOC), Winter Talk is dedicated to furthering Indigenous justice.

Winter Talk is an important time for American Indians and non-Indians, to gather, eat, learn, and talk about the impact of the Doctrine of Discovery. This space is accountable to the Indigenous voice in the exploration of the past, learning to understand the present, and visioning the future.

This year we are proud to announce Dr. Lisa Barnett tand  Rev. Joshua Shawnee, SSM as Keynote speakers!  Lisa Barnett (Northern Cherokee of Missouri and Arkansas) is the Assistant Professor of American Religious History at Phillips Theological Seminary.  Rev. Joshua Shawnee (Shawnee and Delaware), serves as Education and Social Services Director of the Shawnee Tribe and pastor of the Parish Church of St. Jerome.  We are excited to have Lisa and Joshua to help us explore the intersection(s) of incursions, resistance, and integration of Indigenous religious spheres at the 2023 Winter Talk!
