This season, we are pleased to welcome acclaimed tv and film actress Judith Chapman as a director. We also highlight our theatre internship program with our first ever student director Cameron Keys, a DET scholarship recipient now attending College of the Desert. Keith M. Cornell also returns to direct his second DET production.

Oct. 22-24: Season 11 Opening Weekend Benefit Concert: Reunited and It Feels So Good, conceived and directed by Jerome Elliott. DETC's signature popular season opener will feature popular singers Bonnie Gilgallon, Charles Herrera and Darci Daniels, along with Elliott, in a fast-paced, cabaret-style revue. A benefit for DETs theatre internship and scholarship program, this years event will include an added Sunday matinee.

Dec. 10-12 and 17-19: The Beebo Brinker Chronicles, by Kate Moria Ryan and Linda S. Chapman. Based on the pulp-fiction classics by Ann Bannon and set in pre-Stonewall Greenwich Village, The Beebo Brinker Chronicles follows the lives and loves of Laura, Beth and Beebo as they navigate uncharted territories of desire. Directed by Judith Chapman.

Jan. 21-23 and 28-30. Artificial Morality, a world premiere, by Tony Padilla. DET continues to highlight the work of its Playwright-in-Residence Tony Padilla, the company's Founding Producing Artistic Director Emeritus. A master of language and insight, here Padilla explores the very nature of identity in the age of social media. Directed by Cameron Keys.

Feb. 18-20 and 25-27. Salty, by AJ Clauss. A recent hit at Seattles ReAct Theatre, Salty was inspired by the true story two male African penguins at a Dutch zoo, who made international headlines in 2019 when they stole an egg from a heterosexual couple. Set sometime in the distant future, Salty tracks the parallel lives of some of the last penguins on the planet and their all too human keepers. Directed by Jerome Elliott.

Mar. 25-27 and Apr. 1-3. All This Intimacy, by Rajiv Joseph. First produced by New York's Second Stage Theater, Rajiv Joseph has created a sex comedy gone wrong involving one man responsible for three simultaneous pregnancies and myriad complications. Directed by Keith Cornell.

Founded by Tony Padilla in 2011, DET is committed to growing the art of theatre by producing innovative plays that underscore the complexity of human interaction. DET nurtures the growth of artists of all ages, on and off the stage, and creates an environment that rewards and cherishes them. The companys theatre internships give high school students the on-the-job experience of working in professional productions. At the end of each season, DET awards scholarships to graduating seniors who have completed internships and plan to continue their higher education in theatre arts. To date the company has awarded more than $16,000 in scholarship support.

Desert Ensemble Theatre COVID-19 VACCINE STATEMENT

The Board of Directors of the Desert Ensemble Theatre voted unanimously at a special meeting to require that all individuals show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to gain admittance to the Theatre when attending performances during the 2021-2022 Season.

This requirement applies to all patrons, artists, volunteers, staff, sponsors, media, and vendors. Required proof is a valid COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card.

A full refund will be issued to current subscribers for those unable to comply with the policy. The Theatres plan is to simply reverse credit card charges expeditiously.

This is an extremely difficult time for everyone, and as a board we truly feel this is the right thing to do. Our plan is to keep not only our patrons safe, but our staff, and artists that work with us during the year said Shawn Abramowitz, Executive Director.
