Thank you for Participating.

The purpose of Black Mens Movie Night is to begin a conversation about Manhood and specifically, Black Manhood. In this time, with the New Masculinity and the Me Too movement, I believe we as Black Men must take time for a critical examination of ourselves, how we show up, where our idea of Manhood came from, and how it developed.

Greetings family, on May 30, 2020, at 4 pm PST and 7 pm EST, we will watch the movie Lackawanna Blues and have a critical conversation about the character roles of the men in the film. Our objective will be to have a crucial dialogue about Black Manhood. We will examine the male characters and talk about how you/we see them, have we experienced male characters as we see in the movie in our own lives and the impact they have had on us.

Lackawanna Blues is an American play written by Ruben Santiago-Hudson that premiered in 2001. It was later adapted as a television movie that aired in 2005. The play dramatized the character of the authors primary caregiver when he was growing up in Lackawanna, New York, during the 1950s and 1960s.
