This beginning level workshop offers participants an opportunity to delve into fundamental issues associated with contract management and administration in the nonprofit sector. Nonprofit attorney, Kristy Cook of Mod Law Firm, brings her near decade experience in nonprofit law and management to this session with the goal of teaching nonprofit attendees to:
Understand the basics of contract law and the legal basis of a contract;
Understand the different types of contracts and commercial agreements common to nonprofits;
Identify important elements of contracts and terms that should be escalated for high level review and negotiation;
Understand the importance of implementing contract policies and procedures in the nonprofit sector;
Identify the roles, responsibilities, and opportunities contracting provides to build relationships, set expectations, and balance conflicting priorities;
Identify when a contract is in breach and what to do about it; and
Apply negotiation strategies to vendor agreements.  

Whether big or small, attorney Kristy Cook, serves her nonprofit clients with passion and dedication. She is an experienced advisor and advocate in the sector, having cultivated her deep commitment to assisting nonprofits for the last decade of her career. After graduating from Drake Law School, Kristy went on to obtain her Masters of Public Administration from Portland State University, where she focused her studies on nonprofit leadership and management. Her education then led her to become General Counsel at Central City Concern, a $100 million nonprofit organization in Portland, Oregon, where she worked for eight years. Since opening Mod Law Firm, Kristy has continued to represent numerous nonprofit organizations of varying sizes in Oregon and North Carolina. She is well versed in the legal challenges those organizations face, and has dedicated her career to providing legal solutions to them so they can be better positioned to focus their valuable resources on what's really important - their work.
