Back to the Bone is a one-day festival celebrating all woman and the power of the menstrual cycle.
It includes:

- 10-12.30pm in the meeting room in Fenton Cafe

A free menstrual cycle awareness including :
- an informative talk with Su Guest a menstrual cycle practitioner
-a painting workshop with Sarah Sutton a professional Painter
-a ceramic /clay workshop with Alice Thacher a professional ceramicist
-a photographic workshop with Jenny Harper a professional photographer

All those activities are designed to inform and empower the participants about their menstrual cycle.
The workshop is free and open to all , perfect for a special mum an daughter time (age +10 year old) ,

- 7.30pm The Performance in the Fenton Town Hall .

Different local and national companies (theatre, dance and singing) have been comission by the artistic director Lucie Labadie to create a piece about the menstrual cycle.

Tamil period parties are ceremonies for people whove just started their periods. The event signals survival and stability (post-genocide), but it can also be rooted in a colonial denial of transness. Their Period is an answer to the question: What would it look like to queer a period party?

-COILED UP by Sababa..CO

Coiled up explores the reality of having and carrying around a womb. This organ reacts to
stress, contraception, the period cycle. It drives you mad, makes you depressed, paralyses
you with pain, sucks away your energy and creates some absurd and unforgettable
moments. It s a bit like having a spoiled dinosaur living in your belly asking to be fed by
hormones. We want to unleash it onto the stage.

Sababa Co. is the creative output of choreographer and movement director Bar Groisman.
Founded in 2019, it is a contemporary dance theatre company creating physical and
theatrical dance works that push the boundaries between movement, text, music, and set.
Bars work shares personal insights into everyday human struggles, creating a platform to
tackle undervalued and under highlighted issues.

-LET IT BLEED! by Lucie Labadie

Day 1. My blood flows freely and I breathe out ...

Let It Bleed! is a multi-textured piece where dance, sound and voice seamlessly intertwine. Created and directed by Lucie Labadie in collaboration with the performers.
Let it Bleed! takes the audience though the ups and downs of a menstrual cycle, informed by the insights gained during a creative journaling project.
This piece explores the different energies and emotions women and people who menstruate experience during the four phases of their cycle (menstruation/winter, pre-ovulation/spring, ovulation/summer, pre-menstruation/autumn).

This work encourages new ways of thinking about menstruation and challenges how this natural, though often taboo process, is perceived by society.

Lucie Labadie
Lucie has been a international dance artists for over 15 years , teaching , performing and producing .For the last 2 years she has become passionate about menstrual cycle awareness and is fascinated by how it empowers women. In 2021 she was awarded a grant from the Arts Council England to create Let it Bleed! a solo dance piece about women and people who menstruate. Last year she was delighted to receive further funding from the Arts Council to enable her to continue to develop the work and make it multi-disciplinary piece.
She has also been producing Let it Bleed! for Girls (LIBFG), a project funded by the Arts Council England. LIBFG is a series of informative and creative workshops about the menstrual cycle delivered in schools and community centres.
After those two successful projects Lucie decided it was time to share her work and to raise awareness about the menstrual cycle with a wilder audience . Therefore she currently producing the Festival Back to the Bone to unite people, celebrate women and the power of menstruation and to give them the freedom to be their self truly .

-Take back
Take Back Theatre Collective was set up by actor Julie Hesmondhalgh, writer Becx Harrison and visual artist Grant Archer in October 2015, as an artistic response to the politics of austerity. The original intention was to commission urgent short pieces of theatre, performed script-in-hand, in response to social and political events.

They have been privileged to bring together a community of artists from Greater Manchester and beyond, united by a passion to make their voices heard and be a part of the change.

They now have two main strands to our work:

Rapid response script in hand events that explore a specific issue pertinent at the time.
Immersive and installation based work that explores social and political issues in more depth.
In all they do, they seek to make bold, exciting, innovative work on specific social and political issues that raises wider awareness, moves the conversation forward, inspires people into action and is ultimately full of hope.
Take back is currently working on their Back to the Bone commission they are exploring the menstrual cycle through a man perspective..

Gin Sunday is a vocal Harmony duo based in the midlands . They like to sing whatever gets people moving !Kit Henson and Grace Pennington are currently working on their Back to the commission and exploring the idea of going through a menstrual cycle with a medley of popular songs .

-A free immersive photographic exhibition by Jenny Harper
Jenny Harper will create an immersive exhibition in a Red Tent capturing different women in their day to day life in their cycle . The exhibition aims to show how women feels in the four phases of their cycle .

Jenny Harper
Jenny is a documentary photographer interested in real stories and how people interact with each other and places. She brings our projects to life by capturing artists and communities through photography and film.

The Festival is funded by the Art Council and produced by Lucie Labadie.
