Our 2013-14 season finale features the most venerable of San Francisco violinists, Stuart Canin, in Frank Martin's Violin Concerto (1951), considered one of the finest 20th Century works of its genre. Mr. Canin held the concertmaster chair at SF Symphony for many past seasons and continues to be a masterful and inspirational teacher to many violinists.
The concert begins and closes with selections that premiered in Paris, 250 years apart - Jean-Baptiste Lully's masterful March for the Turkish Ceremony, composed for Louis XIV upon the visit of the Turkish ambassador. and Stravinsky's brilliant, colorful Firebird Suite.
Music Director Stephen Paulson conducts the program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, bidding farewell to the orchestra's 24th season and a fanfare to our next 25th anniversary season.
