MEMORABILIA

UrbanTheater Company @ Batey Urbano
Chicago, IL

Sales have ended for this event.

Thank you for being a part of our journey with Memorabilia! If you attended the show and provided us with priceless insight and support, thank you! This is only version 2.0. As we keep growing and developing the show, you are one of our valued OG audience members. We'll never forget you. ¡Gracias! Un abrazo.

We invite you to experience the journey of Salvador, a soft-spoken yet frazzled inventor who creates an apparatus to preserve his most beloved memories and maybe to face the reality of the darker ones. With courage and foolishness, Salvador will walk you through his days of chaos, memories, and wonder.

Memorabilia is a clown solo-show using acrobatics, juggling, dance, and theatre to tell a story meant to make you laugh and perhaps cry. This is version 2.0 of what we're hoping becomes an ever-growing staged work! Join us on this adventure.

Performed and written by Jean Claudio
Directed and co-created by Raquel Torre

Staged managed by Maydi Díaz
Mentored by UrbanTheater Company
Supported by so many beautiful people!

NOTES:
- While this production is not a children's show (and some themes might feel a bit more "grown-up", like in a Pixar film), it is apt for all ages and children are welcome.
- The venue is wheelchair-friendly.
- Masks are requested and will be provided.

JEAN:
Jean Claudio (he/they & él/elle) has been performing, teaching, and creating in Chicago since 2016. His years of training in Puerto Rico, Chicago, and Argentina have given him a unique and versatile performance style. A skilled tumbler and physical performer, he can easily shift from a quirky clown apt for all ages to an experimental performer fitting for cabarets.

RAQUEL:
Raquel Torre (she/her/ella) is a creator/performer from Puerto Rico with a background in physical theatre and devised performance. Since moving to Chicago in 2016, shes collaborated with UrbanTheater Company, Filament Theatre, Shattered Globe Theatre, The Gift Theatre, Opera-Matic, Rough House Theater, among others, as a director, teaching artist, and actor. In 2013, she co-founded La Vuelta Ensemble (formerly Circo La Vuelta) with Jean Claudio,

LA VUELTA:
To spin, to be around, to take a walk, to twirl, to be close by, to be back... A "vuelta" can be many things.

It began as a circus duo in 2013, when Jean Claudio and Raquel Torre started using the name Circo La Vuelta, as they trained and performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It took the form of many spectacles, big and small, long and short all around Puerto Rico. It stopped making the rounds for a couple of years, as the founders moved to Chicago in 2016 to continue developing as individual artists. Then it came back in 2019, seeking a new performance language as a minority-led ensemble with a focus on high physicality and delightful absurdity.

We are still spinning around.
