Founded in San Francisco in 1996, Los Delicados are poet performers Norman Antonio Zelaya, Darren J. DeLeon and Paul S. Flores. The three return to celebrate their 25th Anniversary and honor the Floricanto legacy of Chicano-Latino Movement poetry that flourished in the neighborhood in the 1970s, and inspired the explosion of Latino Spoken Word that occurred in the 1990s throughout California and the Southwest.
Join Los Delicados at "Speaking Axolotl" in Oakland as they celebrate 25 years of poetic lo-cura as innovators of Latino Spoken Word. Featuring special guests American Book Award Winner Amalia Ortiz (San Antonio, TX), AfroCuban percussionist Quique Padilla, playwright Milta Ortiz (Tucson, AZ), poet Mario Ellis Hill (Sacramento), poet Chuy Quintero (East Palo Alto), poet Kevin Kobelt and musical performance from guests AZTLAN UNDERGROUND (Los Angeles).
Hosted by Josiah Luis Alderete.
Speaking Axolotl is a Latinx Reading series that happens the third Thursday of every month at Nomadic Press Studios Uptown in Oakland.
