LUMINA Womens Ensemble
The Veil and the Thorn: Music for Lent
A rich tapestry of music focusing on themes of Lent through songs of Mary and lament, this concert weaves the old and the new. Selections include everything from Kassia, (the earliest woman in the history of music for whom we have preserved music), to local composers Elizabeth Alexander and J. David Moore. Rachmaninoff, Victoria, Brahms and Duruflé round out this deeply satisfying program.
Lumina is a professional womens vocal ensemble in the Twin Cities dedicated to the mystery, beauty, and hope inherent in music. They were selected as MPRs Class Notes Artist for three years, and featured on numerous Taste of the Holiday CDs. In 2018, Lumina produced a CD Light in the Darkness to be distributed free of charge to those in hospice or in need of healing. Luminas programming draws from a deep well of musical sources, including Medieval chants, Renaissance motets, folksong traditions, and works by living and local composers.
