Le Vent du Nord in Concert
Blue Note Ballroom
The award winning and highly acclaimed band Le Vent du Nord is a leading force in Quebecs progressive francophone folk movement. The groups vast repertoire draws from both traditional sources and original compositions, while enhancing its hard-driving soulful music (rooted in the Celtic diaspora) with a broad range of global influences.
Featuring button accordion, guitar and fiddle, the bands sound is defined by the hurdy-gurdy, which adds an earthy, rough-hewn flavor to even the most buoyant dance tunes. Renowned as wonderful ambassadors of la Francophonie, Le Vent du Nord is also acknowledged as an influential force and key player in Quebecs traditional folk music revival.
Since the groups founding in 2002 (+1800 shows), the band has racked up several prestigious awards, including 2 JUNOS (Canadas Grammys), 2 Canadian Folk Music Awards, 1 Félix, 1 Grand Prix du Disque Charles Cros (France). Touring Artist of the Year nominee at BC Touring Council and and Artist of the Year at Folk Alliance International (US).
While exhibiting serious folk chops, Le Vent du Nord knows how to connect Quebecois tradition meaningfully to the larger musical world. The group relishes collaboration with diverse musicians, including everyone from Väsen to Julie Fowlis,
Harry Manx, Breabach, and The Chieftains to pan-Mediterranean ensemble Constantinople and several symphony orchestras.
If youve seen them before, you already know. And if youve never seen them, words wont do them justice. Le Vent du Nord is one of the best bands touring today, no matter your musical taste
