Extraordinary jazz trumpeter Wallace Roney will perform with his quintet on April 25th at 7 PM. Come early for an intimate master class with Wallace, in which he'll demonstrate techniques and discuss his life as a jazz musician. Bring your questions!
Trumpeter Wallace Roney is a forward-thinking, post-bop musician with a healthy respect for the jazz tradition. Blessed with a warm yet plaintive trumpet tone and a strong improvisational style, Roney's distinctive playing bears the influence of such legendary predecessors as Clifford Brown, Woody Shaw, and Miles Davis, who was a mentor to Roney during his later years. In many ways, Roney has cemented his image as the heir to Davis' legacy. While many of Roney's albums display his talent for swinging and harmonically advanced acoustic jazz, others reveal his love of genre-bending, electrified funk, hip-hop, and soul.
