Spotlight Academy has announced their summer camp for 2013 will be a theatre workshop series for ages 9-17!  Students will receive intensive training from a variety of local teaching artists, theatre directors, professional singers and performers all teaching a workshop of their specialty.  Under the supervision of Spotlight Director Rachel Lopez, students will attend a series of workshops covering all things theatre from costuming to stage combat! Camp will culminate with a class demonstration for parents and friends.  Space is limited.  Early registration is encouraged at www.goodluckmacbeth.org.

Summer in the Spotlight  Intensive Workshop Series Schedule 2013

Director: Rachel Lopez

Monday 9:00-noon Camp Orientation & Introductions:
Camp begins with short orientation for students and introduction games to get to know each other. Tour of the theatre and general rules will be covered. T-shirts and camp information will be passed out at this time.


Monday 1:00-4:00 Visual Character Development:
Learn to develop your character from the outside in! In this workshop, students will explore visual elements that communicate the essence of a character. After reviewing basic design principles, students will play with costumes, hair and make-up to learn how to portray and create a variety of characters.

Tuesday 9:00-noon Dancing Basics & Styles:
Students will be guided through a variety of dance styles including; Jazz, Hip Hop and Latin Ballroom for extra flavor! There are countless styles of dance; the more you try the easier it will be to take on new challenges and the stronger you will be at auditions and in performances!

Tuesday 1:00-4:00 Singing Broadway:
This vocal workshop will concentrate on teaching your child to become a singing actor or actress....not just a singer "going through the motions". We'll cover basic vocal techniques and diction, and how to keep your voice in shape; staying away from harmful habits. Also included will be a mock vocal audition as if auditioning for an actual Broadway musical!

Wednesday 9:00-noon Auditioning for Stage:
Learn how to master auditioning techniques for the stage to help you land all the roles you want! Amanda will share her years of expertise and guide students through the auditioning process to help them feel comfortable under pressure & nail every audition!

Wednesday 1:00-4:00 On-Camera Auditioning Techniques:
This workshop will help performers increase their chances for future on-camera bookings! Emily will evaluate students on-camera and give them valuable information that she has learned from her 20+ years in front of the camera and behind it! Don't miss out on this workshop where she shares all her Casting "Do's & Don'ts"!

Thursday 9:00-noon Intensive Scene Study & Character Development:
"Acting is reacting." In this workshop, young actors will delve into the hearts and minds of characters through scene work, focusing on the reactions of characters to their inner thoughts and outer relationships. Students will explore dialogue, subtext, andmost importantlyreactions, learning how to use those reactions to guide them through the text and create a richer performance. Stanislavsky and Kinesthetic Response techniques will be covered.

Thursday 1:00-4:00 Stage Combat Basics:
In this class, participants will get a fun and intense introduction to stage combat without any of the pain! Students will learn how to execute stage slaps, knaps, punches, kicks, throws and falls. Young actors will then finish the class by creating a stage combat scene of their own. Great for girls and boys!

Friday 9:00-2:00 Rehearsal & Preparation:
After a full week of intensive workshop courses, students will choose their favorite subject to demonstrate to an audience of parents, friends & family. Lunch will be provided.


Friday 2:30 -? Class Demonstration:
Parents, friends and family are invited to attend a short demonstration/performance of each student's favorite topic they learned from their week of workshops. Time allotted for this performance will depend on the amount of students we end up with for final enrollment but will not go pass the 4:00 dismissal time. We encourage audience members to stay for entire demonstration so each student gets a chance in front of a full audience. Students are dismissed with parent or guardian at the end of all the performances. Students will also receive their Certificates of Completion for the course.
