Invasion! is a Obie-winning play by Obie-winning playwright Jonas Hassen KhemirI. It is a fast-paced dark comedy about Middle Eastern identity in a post-9/11 world. In his play, Khemiri asks the audience: Who is Albukasem? An international threat or your dancing uncle? A terrorist or a female director? A dangerous conspirator or a desperate creep at the bar?
Using only four actors, Khemiris many characters seek to define the existence of Albukasem through scrutiny, stigma, and suspicion. Although the play was written in 2006, Invasion! continues to confront its audience about their own prejudices, highlighting fear of the misunderstood other that still exists in 2018.

Invasion! is a tornado of words, images and ideas, all centered around a magical name: Abulkasem. The play assaults our deepest prejudices about identity, race and language. At once hilarious, disturbing and poignant, this deeply subversive play deconstructs a threatening identity the Arabic male and forces us to confront our own cultural identity.
