The City Stompers is Manhattan's only group dedicated to learning traditional American percussive dance. Appalachian clogging, flatfooting, and buck dancing are the traditions we study, frequently accompanied by live music on fiddle, banjo and guitar.
The City Stompers is pleased to welcome Sandy Silva of Montreal as a special guest teacher for a class in flatfooting.
Sandy Silva has been teaching percussive dance for over 20 years. Her innovative work with both professional and amateur modern dancers, tap dancers, buck and step dancers, circus artists, schoolchildren, hip hop dancers, vocalists, percussionists and musicians has gained her an international reputation as a truly creative and inspirational teacher. Her work teaches students the essential tools for listening, analyzing and embodying music as a human instrument.
For this class, Sandy will be accompanied by Craig Judelman who plays fiddle with the Dust Busters, an old-time string band based in Brooklyn. Sandy will lead the class in learning traditional flatfooting steps which will enable you to lend percussive sounds to the music and become a part of the music making through your dance.
Come join the City Stompers and Sandy Silva and learn how to "play your feet"!
Sandy will teach another workshop the following day in Brooklyn. Attend both and receive a discount! Course description for Saturday workshop here: http://sandysilvarhythm.brownpapertickets.com |
