Finnriver Craft Course: Introduction to Pointed Pen Calligraphy

Class Description:

Using the ancient dip pen and black sumi ink, come discover the joy and beauty of calligraphy and the calming meditation of letterforms. Each student will learn the basic alphabet in classic cursive calligraphy as the foundation to experiment and add their own creative flair.

We might get ink on our hands, we will hear the delicate scratching of the nib on paper, we will connect deeply with the letters we already use and read daily. Students will spend the duration of the class learning to shape letterforms with the pointed pen and ink. We will be working toward a work of art to frame and hang on the wall or give as a gift.

Each student will leave class with a more confident ability to write beautifully, to understand the letters used in nearly every application of life, and more importantly, a set of supplies to write beautifully anywhere anytime. Students must have a basic understanding of letters and cursive script. No other prerequisites necessary, all are welcome.

For Summer 2018 the Craft Course workshop series will be offered on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month from 11am-2pm from June through September in our rustic Hay Barn -- at the Finnriver Cider Garden in Chimacum, Washington.

Courses are led by local artists/instructors with a passion to create and share their skills and wisdom.

Please note, attendees must be 15 years old to register for a Craft Course at Finnriver, or have permission of instructor.

Biography of Instructor:

Lindsey Wayland is a poet calligrapher. She has facilitated art, poetry, and letter-writing workshops to both adults and youth (including at-risk youth in wilderness and the inner city). She is a member of the IAMPETH, the oldest and largest penmanship organization, dedicated to practicing and preserving the beautiful arts of calligraphy and fine penmanship. Her love of teaching is born of her intuitive connection with people and her ability to reflect the highest potential of her students.

Course fees vary and course class includes:

- A cider token for free draft pour of per participant

CANCELLATION:

A minimum of 6 pre-registered students will be required one week prior to the event or the course will be cancelled.
