Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society presents two delightful musical comedies composed by Sir Arthur Sullivan - "Trial By Jury" and "Cox & Box" starring talented local performers, accompanied by the Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Orchestra. "Trial by Jury" is a musical farce about a breach of promise court proceeding. It features a Plaintiff, Angelina who is innocently(?) suing the Defendant, Edwin, a two-timing cad who left her at the altar. She is represented by Counsel who condescendingly pleads her tearful case. The Usher tries unsuccessfully to control the boisterous courtroom, while three bridesmaids flirt suspiciously with the Defendant. The Chorus is a Jury of opinionated Brits and the impartial Judge turns out to be the most opinionated of all! In "Cox and Box" by Burnand and Sullivan, a canny landlord, Bouncer, rents the same flat to both Mr. Cox, who works all day, and Mr. Box, who works all night. Bouncer tries to keep the two from ever meeting and realizing they both pay for the same room - but eventually the truth must out and complications arise in restrained British indignation - and comedy. In between these two comic operettas we will perform some musical gems from other beloved Gilbert and Sullivan shows. We are delighted to announce our principal cast for our productions: For "Cox and Box": Directed by Lee Milhous and Bob Kinney Cox: Robert Kinney Box: Robert West Bouncer: Wilbur Lewis For "Trial by Jury": Directed by Bob Binkley Judge: David Swartz Angelina: Jenne Carey Edwin: Derek Hess Usher: Fred Dittman Counsel: Stu Baird Foreman: Lee Milhous |
