LiRa Dance Theater is a new professional Dance Theater Company under the Co-Artistic Direction of Lisa Conlin And Raena Rasmussen. LiRa Dance Company held auditions June 2015 at Balleraena Dance Studio. Over 30 dancers auditioned with 12 Dancers making the Company.
Conlin and Rasmussen were so excited and thrilled with all the talent there is in Sioux Falls,SD.
LiRa will present their first show Thursday, August 4, 2016 for a ONE NIGHT ONLY PREMIERE SHOW at the Museum of Visual Materials on Main Ave downtown Sioux Falls. PreShow starting at 6:30pm and Show at 7:30pm.
Blending both theater and dance with a wide variety of styles, both indoor and outdoor, with live music and singing, the evening promises thought provoking, artistic entertainment featuring both choreographers "Greatest Hits" (favorite pieces of Choreography). Lisa Conlin, a company member of the professional Dance Company, Ballet of the Dolls of Minneapolis, MN met Raena Rasmussen, hometown girl and owner of Balleraena Dance Studio, while taking a dance class at Balleraena. That was 12 years ago and the two have been friends ever since. At the time Conlin, lived in Minneapolis. Conlin cast Rasmussen in 2 of her professional shows in the cities, Blue Heaven and Sacred. Rasmussen hired Conlin to direct and choreograph her studio's winter show for the past 4 years at the Orpheum Theater as well as teach dance, theater, and yoga classes at Balleraena Dance Studios.
Conlin moved to Sioux Falls two years ago, and the two joined artistic forces to give Sioux Falls their first professional dance theater company; LiRa Dance Theater.
Also making guest appearances are professional dancer, singer, and song writer, Brian Evans, Minneapolis, MN and 4 Balleraena Dancers. Four of the Balleraena dancers will be making appearances in one piece titled "The Secret Annex" inspired by The Diary of Anne Frank, choreographed by Conlin. The other Balleraena Dancer will be performing a duet in a Cirque du Soleil piece choreographed by Rasmussen.
LiRa's mission is to provide ground breaking dance and theater choreography that moves, inspires, and feeds the soul.
