John Jay Homestead
Katonah, NY

Sales have ended for this event.

Forays into seed saving often begin with heirloom tomatoes. And understandably so; not only are heirloom tomatoes one of the most prized garden crops, but the seeds inside ripe tomatoes are mature and ready to be collected at the same time that the fruits are harvested for eating. Which means gardeners can easily save and share seedsand grow their favorite varietiesyear after year.

Beginning with explaining the difference between heirloom, open-pollinated, and hybrid tomatoes, this class teaches everything you need to know to save healthy, true-to-type tomato seedsincluding growing healthy tomatoes. A step-by-step demonstration of the fermentation process used to clean tomato seeds will leave you confident to harvest tomato seeds from your own garden.

Come sample at least six of the instructor's favorite tomatoes, and leave with heirloom tomato seeds to try next year.

Why choose a favorite variety? Save seeds and grow them all!
