In the lead-up to World Aids Day 2010, 15 extraordinary actors, several award-winning writers and one superstar director are coming together to present a unique theatrical event in celebration of  the work of creative arts charity Dramatic Need and to help raise funds for a community arts centre in rural South Africa. Writers, including Pulitzer prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined), Olivier Award-winning Bola Agbaje (Gone Too Far), Polly Stenham (That Face), Dennis Kelly (Debris, After the End, Love and Money), Anya Reiss (Spur of the Moment), Zawe Ashton ( Harm's Way), Joel Horwood (Is Everyone OK?) Gabriel Bisset-Smith (Playtime),Jamie Minoprio (I want Candy)and Oladipo Agboluaje (God is a DJ, The Estate), have adapted 12 powerful monologues from original testimonies written by the children Dramatic Need works with in South Africa. These will be performed by renowned actors at the prestigious Old Vic Theatre in London and simultaneously in rural South Africa by the children themselves. This performance is for one-night only, your unique chance to see the collaborative efforts of this remarkable creative team.

Actors include: Academy Award winner Sir Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titans, Tamara Drewe), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes, War Horse, Atonement) Eddie Redmayne (Red [Olivier Award - Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Tony Award - Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play], The Good Shepherd); Nonso Anozie (Othello,Death and the King's Horseman, The Golden Compass); Jenny Jules (Ruined, Fabulation, Kavanagh QC); Olivia Grant (Mr. Nice, Women in Love); Tom Hiddleston (Spielberg's War Horse,Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, Kenneth Branagh's Thor);Kerry Fox (Shallow Grave, Angel at my Table) Hattie Morahan,(The Golden Compass, Sense and Sensibility); Charlie Cox (Stardust); Wunmi Mosaku (I am Slave); Lucian Msamati (The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Pericles); Nikki Amuka-Bird (Small Island, Survivors); Romola Garai (King Lear, Atonement, Emma) and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits).

Music for the Children's Monologues will be arranged by award-winning British composer Paul Gladstone-Reid MBE. The powerful score will include original recordings of the children reading their stories in Sesotho and Tswana drawn into the music.

The Children's Monologues will be directed by Oscar-winning director of Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle!
