This is not the stuffy, predictable Christmas tale that we all know (and love). Rather, this version of the story is the "fifteenth annual Farewell Tour of the Styckes-Upon-Thump production" of the Dickens classic... kind of a "Noises Off" style of mayhem and farce that still manages to capture the familiar story of a miser's redemption.
Seven actors portray more than 30 characters, with quick-change costumes (and mishaps) confounded by the fact that the young understudy has never been on stage before... the show's diva is intent upon shining brighter than anyone else... and the has-been star of the show pauses for applause after every "bah, humbug."
Sue Weingarten directs the play, written by Mark Langdon Smith and featuring local actors.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. |
