Christopher Yohmei Blasdel & Sasha Bogdanowitsch present new original works & improvisations for shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) , voice, world instruments & electronics, intermingling ancient instruments alongside contemporary creations.
Special guests include dancer, Autumn Koiti.

Christopher Yohmei Blasdel began the shakuhachi and studies of Japanese music in 1972 with Goro Yamaguchi. In 1982 he received an MFA in ethnomusicology from Tokyo University of Fine Arts and is one of only two non-Japanese to be accredited as a "shihan" master by Yamaguchi. Performing in Japan and around the world, Blasdel maintains a balance between traditional shakuhachi music, modern compositions and cross-genre work with musicians, dancers, poets and visual artists.
Sasha Bogdanowitsch is a composer, vocalist & multi-instrumentalist whose work ranges from writing live and recorded music for theater, dance and film to cross-disciplinary performance and songs. Sasha has performed throughout the world in such varied countries as Australia, Japan, India and Indonesia and throughout the USA and to local venues like New York's Carnegie Hall, Whitney Museum, Symphony Space, BAM, Galapagos, Issue Project Room and the Stone. He is co-founder of arts non-profit, World In One and the Vital Vox Vocal Festival.
Autumn Kioti has been seen from Miami to Indonesia as an actress, dancer, fighter, and circus artist. She originated the role of Cassandra in THE HIVE, based on Euripides' TROJAN WOMEN, has performed at La Mama, Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, and more, and has appeared in award-winning films worldwide. As a kinetic artist: NYFA, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Streb, and more. Fight choreography: FringeNYC, the Wild Project, teraNOVA Collective, and more. She is currently a stunt woman on POWER, a STARZ Original Series. |
