We are having an all WOMEN comedy show on behalf of Rahab's Sisters. These comedians are some of the best in Portland. Doors open at 9pm; Show at 9:30pm
Rahab's Sisters is an organization gather Friday nights at Saints Peter and Paul Episcopal Church on Southeast 82nd Avenue (between Stark and Burnside), from 7pm - 10pm. We serve women of all faiths and women of no faith, offering a warm safe environment with food, hot coffee, conversation, health items, and--where appropriate--prayer. Like the original Rahab, we strive to give "friendly welcome" to those who would otherwise be on the streets and in danger. Rahab's Sisters vision is a city where all women are safe from physical and sexual exploitation. Your Performers for the evening....
Iris Jean Gorman: A loud audience member once said "Ohhh She's weird" during her set. Other fans have described her as "witty" and "A tiny bundle of joy" and of course "easy on the eyes" (She may or may not have made that last one up.) She can make disgusting things relatable and charming. Christen Manville: A young Midwestern woman living far from home, her perspective is sophisticated, but sweet, and utilizes a concise, analytic approach to find the humor that others overlook. Christen's comedic perspective combines world weary cynicism with wonder and optimism. She sees the world as damaged and confusing, but recognizes that as something to laugh about rather than a reason to wallow in despair. She shares a "Delightfully cerebral look at a lop-sided world". Stephanie Purtle: Stephanie is the opposite of the worst. She comes with the most amazing sense of timing along with the most warm warped twist on the world. She was finalist in the Portland's Funniest Contest this summer and has been in Bridgetown. She is a realist that will leave you wanting more as your cheeks break out from her stabbing you with jokes in your face. Your headliner, Whitney Streed: Whitney Streed is a comedian because if she was not, her incessant punning would have no artistic or monetary value whatsoever. She has opened for the likes of Maria Bamford, Rob Delaney and Jackie Kashian, and closed for JCPenney Portraits, but that was a long time ago. Whitney has performed in clubs, pride festivals and sketchy bars across the Pacific Northwest, as well as festivals including Portland's Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Seattle SketchFest, and the Salt Lake City Comedy Carnivale. She can be seen playing a feminist in two seasons of IFC's hit show Portlandia. In addition to doing stand-up, Whitney also produces comedy/variety shows, including the Weekly Recurring Humor Night (running since March 2011) and co-producing the satirical infotainment series known as CHAD Chats. She created and maintains the PDX Comedy Blog. She likes glitter.
