New State of Illinois Food Handler Training
All Food Handler must be Trained and Certified.This course meets all the requirements of the State of Illinois Food Handler training and examination. The course and examination takes less than 2 hours to complete. At the end of the training you must take a 40 question test. Passing is a score of 70% or better.
If you do not pass, you can retake the test after a review.
At the successful completion of the training, you will be provided with your certificate and handler card. The certificate is provided for your employer and the card is for the employee. Your Certification is good for 3 years.
Walk-in Train and Walk-out Certified!
You must be trained and Certified to legally work as Food Handler in Illinois.
Who is considered a Food Handler?
A Food Handler is a Food Employee as defined in Section 750.110 of the Illinois Food Service Sanitation Code, "means individual working with unpackaged food, food equipment or utensils, or food-contact surfaces."***

These are the key words "food-contact surfaces". This means not only a Cook, but also, Dishwasher, Busser, Wait Staff and Bartender. If a Host only seats a Guest, they are not a Food Handler. It the Host seats the Guest and then provides bread service, water service, or moves silverware, they touch a "food-contact surface". And now, are considered a Food Handler.
