The 7 Towers Theatre Company continues its fourth season with William Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well, a dark comedy that tackles the issues of war, gender roles, and the relationship between love and personal fulfillment.
Helena, the daughter of a renowned French doctor, proves herself to be a competent physician by successfully healing the French king of a mysterious ailment. As a reward, she is allowed to marry a young nobleman, Bertram. Unsatisfied with the marriage and seeking personal glory, Bertram runs off to fight in the Tuscan wars. The play takes a dark look at war, presenting the battlefield as a place characterized
more by debauchery than by honor. All's Well also presents a very modern look at romantic relationships, undercutting the fairy-tale notion of "happily ever after" at every turn.
In homage to this year's 100th anniversary of the start of WWI, 7 Towers' will continue its past innovation with a unique transformation of the Dougherty Arts Center into WWI Era France. The production will explore the distance between the romanticized notion of war and the brutal reality of battle itself. 7 Towers will capture the themes of All's Well while also highlighting the degree to which WWI changed the global understanding of war and its devastating consequences, adding to the national discourse about the legacy of the "Great War". The show runs Friday-Sunday evenings July 18th-August 3rd at the Dougherty Arts Center. Discounted tickets are available to our veterans and service men and women. |
