Polina Smith (director) -A circus, dance and theater enthusiast, Polina moved to San Francisco to study Clowning and Acrobatics at the San Francisco Circus Center in 2009. Since, Polina has been producing The Literary Foolery Cabareta monthly satirical clown cabaret at Alley Cat Books in the Mission. Polina received her B.F.A. in theater for social change from Concordia University in Montreal, and for the last five years has been working with the Medea Project: Theater for Incarcerated Women, creating theater with women living with H.I.V. Polina is thrilled to be part of the SF Fringe Festival for the first time and is deeply grateful to her cast for their incredible talent and creativity, and to The Medea Project, for their endless source of inspiration.

Cast:

Sam Selliman is excited to be making her debut at the SF Fringe Festival under the direction of Polina Smith. Her credits include Penumbra (2004), Paua (2008) with SEEyD Theatre Company and stage managing for Mui (2006), a solo show. Sam earned her degree in Bachelor of Performing Arts from Toi Whakaari : New Zealand Drama School where she developed a love for devising theatre. Since arriving in San Francisco in 2011, Sam has been in a couple of Shakespeare productions with Butterfield 8 Theatre Company and have contributed to the 48 Hour Film Project with Barewitness Films.

Jessie Alsop is a writer, musician and actor  she vacillates toward whichever medium best serves the story. Born in New Zealand, she developed a passion for collaborative theater whilst studying at Toi Whakaari: the NZ Drama School. Since moving to the USA she has performed regularly with Lit Up Writers (a humor reading series), and released two CDs. Rae Matthias is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston where she studied performing arts and gender studies. She is interested in discovering new non traditional performance in ensemble.  Rae is also a member of the Medea Project: theater for incarcerated women/hiv circle. Her recent theater credits include various devised pieces with a focus on feminism and queer identity. Rae is pursuing a certification in american sign language at Berkeley city college.  She would like to thank Polina and Sam and junior and senior for being so inspiring and supportive.


Jessy Manuel has always been in love with arts, music, writing, dance, film, theatre, painting, photography, and food. At an early age, began to realize her deep passion for food. To feed people was beautiful and incredibly powerful. At the age of 14 she started working at a restaurant. It was that experience that led her to culinary school. Training in fine dining kitchens all over San Francisco, Napa and Hawaii. Quickly ascending the ranks to become an executive chef at 23 years old. Although she has focused on her career as a chef it has open doors to many of her other passions. Working as a assistant director for an independent film, a food stylist and performs regular as a vocalist. A modern day renissance woman her life as a chef continues to go down many avenues outside of cooking. Jessy's passion and dedication has lead her to a life beyond working at a restaurant "the path in which we walk, is only that of what we choose"
