"Rushes", new work for seven bassoons promises to deliver another unforgettable sonic experience.
Francisco López (Spain) & Reinier van Houdt (Netherlands) "untitled #257" Saturday, February 14, 2015; 8PM Orpheum Annex (823 Seymour St., 2nd floor) "untitled #275" is an unorthodox piano concert composition created by Spanish composer/ sound artist Francisco López and Dutch pianist Reinier van Houdt. Presented in two movements, employing both live performance and a multi-channel live immersive sound system, the piece moves from mechanically-prepared, to electronically-mutated piano.

They return to Vancouver in March 2015 with a phenomenal program of works by young Canadian composer Taylor Brook ("El jardin de seneros que se bifurcan" *), alongside works by Georg Friedrich Haas ("String Quartet no. 8" *), and Horațiu Rădulescu ("String Quartet no. 5" 'before the universe was born'" *).
* Canadian premiere
Voices and Strings New works by Peggy Lee, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Linda Bouchard, Linda Catlin Smith, and Jay Schwartz Saturday, April 18, 2015; 8PM Orpheum Annex (823 Seymour St., 2nd floor) Vancouver New Music invited Linda Bouchard, Peggy Lee and Mary Margaret O'Hara to create new works that consider the idea and form of a rich and variable musical form: the Song. From the original Canzona, Lied, Chanson, up to the most creative assemblage or paradoxical expression, this flexible, fluid and omnipresent form has been inspiring cultures the world over for centuries. The evening's program will also feature works by Linda Catlin Smith and Jay Schwartz. |
