The PMI Honolulu, Hawaii Chapter's Monthly Meeting topic is entitled, "Effective Projects:  The Link Between Strategy and Execution"

Dr. Deborah F. Crown will be discussing the role of projects in the transformation of an organization.  Building on strategic leadership and "live strategy", Dr. Crown will discuss the iterative relationship between strategy and execution, and the role projects play in effectively linking and leveraging that relationship.

Please join us for an engaging speaker, lunch, and networking opportunities.  Anyone currently involved or interested in the Project Management profession is welcome!

Speaker Bio

Dr. Crown is the Dean of the College of Business at Hawai'i Pacific University (HPU) and a Professor of Strategic Leadership. She joined HPU, the largest private University in Hawai'i, in 2011.  HPU is recognized by Bloomberg Businessweek magazine as one of the "Best Colleges for Return on Investment," and ranks first among Hawai'i private colleges and universities in "lifetime return on investment," according to AffordableCollegesOnline.org (ACO).  HPU also ranks as the most diverse university in the nation according to a 2013 online study conducted by College Factual. The College of Business also holds the largest MBA program in the state.

Formerly, Dr. Crown was the Associate Dean of the Lucas Graduate School of Business and a Lucas Endowed Professor of Strategic Leadership. Serving the Silicon Valley professional market, she reorganized a portfolio of graduate programs that integrated business, engineering, and science. Her previous experience includes serving as the Director of Graduate Programs as well as the Faculty Director of the Appalachian Regional Entrepreneurial Group in the College of Business and the Voinovich School for Leadership & Public Affairs respectively, both at Ohio University. She also spent 13 years at the University of Alabama where she was the Miles-Rose Professor of Leadership and Ph.D. Coordinator for Management.

Her academic research has been featured in national press publications such as the Wall Street Journal, CNN, ABC National News, New York Times, USA Weekend, and Entrepreneur, as well as numerous academic journals and books. She is also the recipient of a number of national awards for her research, as well as university and college awards for her teaching, mentoring, and service.  Her primary research interests include performance issues, particularly for international and multicultural environments, high performance teams, ethics, and leadership. She received her Ph.D. from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, and a Master's of Science from the University of Colorado, Denver.
