Lecture Description The drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, crippled by an explosion, collapsed and sank into the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, marking one of history's worst oil spills. The fragile ecosystems affected were invaluable. Christina McGee will discuss the damage done to the environment and the subsequent cleanup. She will highlight the factors that contributed to the disaster and also pose some difficult questions such as: Can we prevent this from recurring? Who is to be held liable? What price are we really willing to pay for the oil?
