Belafonte Unauthorized is a stirring one-man show that takes a look at legendary singer Harry Belafonte's unique relationship with the Civil Rights Movement. Belafonte was an entertainer, but he was also a major activist who promoted social change through his work, and like many singers and artists of the day, he helped fund the movement with his own money. Because of his efforts, Belafonte helped changed the idea of how a celebrity could be involved in major social affairs. Starring Austen Jaye (Angie Tribeca, Hello Cupid) and directed by NAACP and international award-winning actor/writer Aaron Braxton (Scorpion, Two Broke Girls, Did You Do Your Homework?), Belafonte Unauthorized will put both a major entertainment figure and a historic social movement in a brand new context. |
