"Más" by Milta Ortiz
Where: Chapter 510 2301 Telegraph Ave Oakland, CA 94612
The production is a co-production between Ubuntu Theater Project and Laney Colleges Fusion Theatre Project and the Theatre Arts Department led by Michael Torres.
Más by Milta Ortiz is a docudrama that champions the true story of a Chicano community in Tucson, Arizona struggling to retain their cultural identity as they fight to save Mexican American Studies in the Tucson Unified School District.
The play is also orchestrated and intended to be a ritual. This production is wrapped in music, dance, and ritual and reveals the real cost of fighting to keep ones culture alive.
This blending of forms between the docudrama and cultural ritual is innovative, unique and balances the difficult task of shedding light on an important political issue without falling into didacticism thereby retaining enormous artistic integrity and virtuosity.
