A creative hive for theatre artists of all backgrounds and stages of career - the Artists Salon is a place where an inter-generational exchange of ideas can take place; where theatre makers can meet to share ideas and projects, debate, discuss, present readings and works in progress. Our mission is to bring the theatre community together to strengthen creative ties between emerging and established artists.

May 8th- Ellen Close
Ellen Close is an actor, playwright, arts administrator and educator. She was a co-facilitator of The Eviction of Stuart Block, an original radio play presented by This Is My City at the High Performance Rodeo in January 2012 and a co-facilitator of The Magpie Treasure Talks, a series of expert talks on unexpected topics by Calgarians who've experienced homelessness.
She is the Associate Artistic Producer of Downstage, a Calgary-based company that produces theatre that creates conversations around social issues (www.downstage.ca), and a member of the Downstage Creation Ensemble, with whom she has co-created and performed Bus(t), In The Wake and Good Fences. Ellen was nominated for the Enbridge Emerging Artist Award in 2010, and with the Downstage Creation Ensemble was the recipient of a Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding New Play. She is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada.
May 22nd- Jamie Dunsdon
Jamie Dunsdon is the Co-Artistic Director of Calgary's Verb Theatre, and an active director, playwright, performer, and arts instructor. She regularly teaches for the University of Lethbridge and Calgary Young Peoples Theatre, and was honoured to be the Artistic Associate/Apprentice Artistic Director at The Grand Theatre in London, ON for the 2013/14 season.
Jamie's interests and work spans the theatrical spectrum, ranging from contemporary Canadian drama to musical theatre to Shakespeare. She places particular value in chararacter, and seeks out stories that place emphasis on the stylistic intersections beween content and form. She embraces statements that begin with "What if theatre could __________?" and strives to ensure that her theatre is both accessible and intelligent. |
