Shakespeare's existentialist masterpiece, The Tragedy of King Lear explores family relationships and mental breakdown, while illustrating the full range of human behaviors from wretched cruelty to perfect love.
King Lear decides to divide his kingdom between his three daughters. To determine their share, they need simply express their love for him. Goneril and Regan shower him in flattery. His youngest, and most beloved, Cordelia, says nothing. So begins Lear's descent into madness. Shakespeare's later life masterpiece is a portrait of a man in decline. As his mind falters, he attains new wisdom. As people betray him, he discovers true loyalty. Does true justice exist in the world? Does unchecked authority lead to tyranny? Does reconciliation lead to love?
