This 40-hour course prepares officers to develop and conduct quality training programs. Curriculum includes instruction in:
assessment of department training needs; conducting research; determining course objectives; instructional techniques; preparation of examinations; methods of evaluation; question techniques; theories of learning; training aids; developing lesson plans; role of the instructor; experiential learning cycle; adult learning; and introduction to power-point.
The learning experience will be enhanced through videotaping and peer group assessment. Applications will be accepted only for individuals who meet the following prerequisites:
Basic Course Graduate Three years of law enforcement experience (Less than three years service requires a waiver request letter to the Executive Director).
It is required that the final class presentation be prepared on a word processor or typewriter. A computer lab is available at the Academy for student use, however students are encouraged to bring a laptop computer.
If a department needs to cancel a student from an ILEA inservice class, it must be done no later than five (5) working days prior to the start of the class. If a student does not show up or cancellation is made any closer to the start of class the agency will be responsible for payment in full for this class.
Full refunds will be given if the course is cancelled by ILEA. No other refunds can be given. |
