Carnegie Observatories Lecture Series - Exoplanets

Rothenberg Hall, The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens
San Marino, CA

Sales have ended for this event.

While it has been only 20 years since astronomers first discovered planets outside of our solar system, several of these so-called exoplanets are already known to have liquid water on their surfaces. In the next decade, scientists will have the ability to search for signs of life, like oxygen and methane, in the atmospheres of a few select exoplanets.  Astronomer Kevin Schlaufman, Carnegie-Princeton Fellow at the Carnegie Observatories, tells the story of exoplanets to date, and outlines the progress being made in  the search for life elsewhere in our galaxy.
