420: The Musical

420: The Musical was written in 2011 by Buffalo comedian, John Kehoe, with music by Laura Lonski. Since 2012, the show has been performed with great success in Buffalo area venues including Wasteland Studios and Subversive Theatre. Currently, the show is set to take over Milkie's on Elmwood for their April 2015 shows.

420: The Musical has been noted for its quirky nature set apart from traditional theatre performances. Any attendee to a 420 show is likely to feel as though they are participating in a unique experience. Cast members make use of their entire space and entrances come right through the audience, giving patrons the idea they are actually in the Land of 420. Pillows and blankets are always available in lieu of front row seats, inviting audience members to relax and enjoy the show as comfortably as possible, a tradition in the spirit of 420. And of course, every show provides the audience with free "munchies" including but not limited to chips, popcorn, and candy.

The story itself centers around Jerry, an every day pot smoker. Jerry comes home from work and is berated by his neighbors, Eric and Bill, about wanting to celebrate 420. Jerry proceeds home to smoke with his roommate, Bekki, best-stoner-friend, Pat, and crush, Abby. While celebrating 420, Jerry passes out and wakes up in the Land of 420, where the only way for him to get home is to find the Mighty High. Of course, he must travel a long distance with the help of many "friends" in order to do so. [Think Wizard of Oz, The Lord of The Rings, and Krull]

This year, 420: The Musical will be performing at Milkie's on Elmwood, 522 Elmwood Ave, on April 17th, 18th, and 20th, at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 7 and guests are invited to come early and have a drink at the bar, as well as stay after the show and mingle with the cast.
