Samsel
Joining us from Boring, Oregon; Samsel is an alternative country band with sincere lyrics and energetic songs. Fronted by singers Cary and Kelsey Samsel, the band is built on a commitment to each other and music. Cary's blues background is evident in his singing but well complemented by Kelsey's smooth, heart-wrenching vocals. The two sing tales of stories of hope, heartbreak and disconnect with energetic and emotional performances. Churched on Soul, Rock and Blues, the band's catchy lyrics are complimented with thoughtful musicianship. They'll take you on journeys of love, fear and brokenness while staying hopeful in the power of music.

Liz Vice
Liz Vice, a Portland native who you will more often find behind a mic or camera on a film shoot, has most recently been recognized for her musical talent on the local music scene, including a show-stealing opening set recently for St. Paul & the Broken Bones at Wonder Ballroom as part of the Soul'd Out Festival. Vice's powerful debut album, There's a Light on Deeper Well records, was recorded almost entirely live to analog tape. The album, a gospel-fueled nod to the R&B / soul records of the 60s and 70s, is modern enough not to be "throw back," but classically influenced enough to feel timeless.

Orquestra Pacifico Tropical
Deep in the vein filled jungles of each of our hearts beats a music with roots as wide as continents and influence as deep as time itself. Cumbia, music of the Southern American Hemisphere. Orquestra Pacifico Tropical have taken this frenetic, addictive rhythm and accomplished what musicians across time and space have always done, bringing crowds into a blistering dance frenzy. From clubs to the forests of the Pacific Northwest, to hear the ecstatic thump, rumble, and sheer brilliance of the racing rhythms of coastal Colombia side by side with the psychedelic guitar explorations of the Peruvian rain forest is to travel across continents and through time with Orquestra Pacifico Tropical as the guide. WIth respect to those who came and innovated before us, and armed with an arsenal of percussion, woodwinds, horns, accordion and guitars, these 11 friends have come together in the spirit of capturing and breathing new life into this most essential of musics. Cumbia, music of the people. Featuring members of Sun Angle, Deer or the Doe, O Bruxo, Ioa, Lewi Longmire Band,Tu Fawning, Point Juncture WA, Modernstate, Jippedo and Team Evil, Orquestra Pacifico Tropical's wall of sound is dedicated to expanding the music of Central and South America to the people and dance floors of the Pacific Northwest.

Brownish Black
he Portland-based octet started out as a three-piece garage rock band, whose raw energy pulled a handful of the city's best players into its gravitational field, yielding bigger and funkier results with each addition.

Though loyal fans flock to ecstatically dance at the band's shows, the subject matter of Brownish Black's songs packs a heavy punch; tackling class warfare and casting harsh criticism on modern social and economic systems. And there are love songs. Nothing is heavier than a love song.

High-energy music going up against oppression is possibly one of the most striking similarities between the group's two main influencers - underground Pacific Northwest indie music and soul. For MD Sharbatz - band leader and Detroit native - nothing seems more natural than fostering the growth of social consciousness and human togetherness through music.

The Strange Tones
If surf guitar god Dick Dale found himself in Bogie's Maltese Falcon film-noir underworld, and drank beer at the seedy bar with bluesmen Jimmy Reed and Magic Sam, the resulting soundtrack might be exactly what the Strange Tones purvey." - Oregonian

The magic of this ensemble is fueled by four players who are equally compelled and driven to advance their cause. This fearsome foursome, led by the husband-and-wife team of Guitar Julie and bassist Andy Strange, and fortified by longtime partners guitarist Suburban Slim and drummer Andy Gauthier, form "....one of Portland's most original and accomplished bands." It may be Andy Strange's lessons learned as bassman for legendary wildman and voodoo practitioner Screamin' Jay Hawkins, or Guitar Julie's steady childhood diet of Jimmy Reed and Ike and Tina Turner. It could be Andy Gauthier's deep groove and flair as a well respected "drummer's drummer", or Slim's intensity and creativity that consistently earn him recognition. As anyone who sees The Strange Tones perform live knows, it's much more than these four individuals....this is a BAND. They bring with them a unique and secret weapon, the Volcano Vixens. Vivian and Vera are strikingly talented dancers and choreographers who have created the perfect steps to compliment the band's sonic crime fighting sound. They have toured extensively in both the USA and abroad, and performed live on the BBC, NPR, and RTE. Their all original sound is infectious and has spread far and wide to audiences of all ages and walks of life. Based in Portland, Oregon these young gents got their start busking on street corners playing traditional old time and bluegrass, eventually honing their sound as a solid dance band playing square dances and bluegrass festivals up and down the west coast.
