New York Speaks: A Hearing on Our Rights to Connect and Communicate

Dweck Center, Brooklyn Central Library
Brooklyn, NY

Sales have ended for this event.

The FCC will be voting soon on two major issues that will have a profound impact on the future of the Internet: Chairman Tom Wheeler's weak Net Neutrality proposal and the pending merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable.

Your voice is needed now more than ever to ensure the FCC supports a fair and open Internet and stops cable giants like Comcast from gaining too much power over what we see online, how fast we see it and how much we pay for it.

Thousands of people have urged the FCC to get out of D.C. and hold public hearings on Net Neutrality and the Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger but so far Wheeler has ignored this call.

That's why Common Cause, Consumers Union, Daily Kos, Demand Progress, Free Press and the Media Action Grassroots Network (MAG-Net) are hosting this important event, which will give New Yorkers the chance to speak out.

This event is free and open to the public at the Brooklyn Central Library.

5 p.m.: Cultural Speak Out and Popular Theater on the Plaza
6 p.m.: Public Hearing in the Dweck Center

Free Press President and CEO Craig Aaron, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, former FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, Presente.org Director Mariana Ruiz and Kickstarter Communications Director Julie Wood will all speak, though the bulk of the two-hour event is reserved for the public. Bring your friends and get ready to share your story!

(Please note that your ticket does not guarantee entry but it does help us plan. Seats will be first come, first served on the day of the event.)
