Join us for the Toronto Premiere of "Huicholes: The Last Peyote Guardians," part of a North American-wide tour. Q&A after the screening with the director and film protagonists. Winner of Best Documentary at the Red Nation Film Festival.
This documentary tells the story of the Wixárika (Huichol) people and their struggle against the Mexican government and Canadian mining companies to protect Wirikuta, their most sacred territory and where the peyote grows. This area is listed as a Sacred Natural and Cultural Site by UNESCO.

Following the screening, there will be a presentation and Q&A with the film's director, Hernán Vilchez, and two of the film's protagonists, traditional Wixárika shamans José Luis Ramírez and Enrique Ramírez from the Sierra Madre. There will also be a performance by the Aztec Dance Group of Toronto.
Tickets - $10 in advance, $12 at the door (no one turned away) Proceeds going to community projects and film costs.
