In 2016, Andrew Hendersona former LFG staff member and strong supporter of the Friends of Lower Fort Garrypassed away after a three-year struggle with cancer. It is safe to say Andrew had an incredible impact on those who knew him. Beyond his infectious sense of humour, his devotion to learning and teaching, and his passion for performing arts, Andrew was committed to helping everyone love themselves for who they are. It was this inspiring and positive outlook on life, perhaps above all else, that left such a mark on so many.
To honour Andrews memory, the Friends of Lower Fort Garry will be establishing the Andrew Henderson Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving grade 12 student from the Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary SchoolAndrews alma materwho shares his passion for the arts and history, and who plans to attend a post-secondary institution upon graduation.
To raise the necessary funds, the Friends will be hosting a party on August 25th inside the walls of the historic Lower Fort Garry, just 15 minutes north of Winnipeg. This will be a night to celebrate Andrews love for lifeand for all things glamorousand will feature a few of his favourite things:
- Champagne
- An unparalleled night of great music and dancing
- A manicure bar provided by the Polished Pinup Parlour
- A photo booth (with historical costumes for added fun)
- An exclusive VIP experience
- Did we mention champagne?
- And more!
In addition, there will be many social favourites including a silent auction and 50/50 draw, and a uniquely Manitoban snack menu.
All proceeds will go towards the scholarship fund and investment. Tax receipts available for certain donation levels.
Worried about a ride? For those coming from Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Trolley Company will be providing shuttle runs throughout the night for $10 round trip.
