As a child growing up in Flint, Michigan he has always had a love for music. As a youth, he would listen to his grandparents recordings in the basement and that is where he developed his love for artists such as Marvin Gaye, The Staples Singers, James Brown, Lou Rawls, and Nancy Wilson, just to name a few.
AJ has been inspired from the concept of true artistry. He decided to pursue the gift of music from the streets of Detroit to the streets of Los Angeles. He knew that music was the blood in his veins. While Attending Wayne State University he studied all genres of music and began singing in talent shows and open-mics. Over the years, AJ has become an experienced lead and back-up vocalist performing with several music groups and bands. He decided to relocate to grow as an individual and pursue a career in Music and Entertainment.
Not only has AJ Calloway grown into a versatile vocalist and songwriter, not limiting himself to mediocrity, he has developed a romantic concept and modern flavor from Jazz, R&B, and Pop music. With a song in his heart and a mic in his hand, he has established himself and is on the rise to achieving magnificent heights and great things in todays music industry.
AJ has performed in over twenty-six Metro Detroit jazz venues, premium night spots and Casinos. He has also performed in several venues throughout Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and continuing to perform nation-wide. |
