Is it fear that leads to isolation? Or isolation that leads to fear? Oriana Fallaci, an Islamaphobic woman in her early seventies is dying of cancer isolated in her New York City brownstone. The year is 2004. Horrified by the events of September 11, 2001, Fallaci wrote three books speaking out against Islam. The after affects of these writings left her in exile, afraid to return to her home country frightened for her life.
After surviving with cancer for ten years the alien spreads to Fallacis eyes leaving her sightless. Her assistant, Sandro, becomes her eyes. Leading her to doctor appointments, cooking with her and helping her to write again.
Jackie Oliveri and Seth Rigoletti headline in Orianas Eyes, a collaborative play, based on the book by Sandro Sechi, chronicling his time as the assistant to the famous writer and journalist Oriana Fallaci. Orianas Eyes is a very timely look at racism, aging and love.
