Join Samba Colorado Dance School and Company for "Alegria!" an original dance show and fundraiser, directed and choreographed by Kebrina Josefina De Jesus and inspired by Master Brazilian Dance Teacher Rosangela Silvestre.
In Portuguese "Alegria" means joy or happiness. Samba Colorado invites you to experience the pure joy of embodied liberation. We will take you on a journey from Salvador da Bahia to Rio de Janeiro through our new dance theatre piece that combines deeply spiritual Afro movements honoring the Orixas (deities of the Candomble religion) enriched with modern Samba elements. We will explore the African Diaspora in Brazilian culture, share ancestral stories as well as our own personal journey from healing to freedom.
This unique dance event will serve as a fundraiser for Samba Colorado to provide necessary tools for furthering our work in the community and support our youth outreach program in Colorado public schools.
Friday and Saturday shows will be followed by a talkback with the artists. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. |
