We are very much looking forward to being with you at Charney Manor on Friday and sharing our practice of 'Developing Calm in a Busy World'.
This in depth retreat focussing on Developing Calm in a Busy World is to help practitioners to deepen their understanding and practice of the Plum Village mindfulness path and will be led by UK Dharma Teachers Jane Coatesworth and Teri West. The retreat is suitable for those with an understanding of mindfulness and a regular practice and will include:
- a set text to study beforehand Being Peace by Thich Nhat Hanh;
- opportunities to practice with guided meditations, silent sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful eating and noble silence;
- the Opportunity to learn from others through dharma sharing; and
- Dharma talks from UK Dharma Teachers.
This Developing Calm retreat is the first in a series of in depth retreats being offered throughout 2017 and 2018. Each will build upon the previous one to provide a good overall foundation for understanding Thich Nhat Hanhs deeper teachings. Although practitioners are also welcome to join these retreats as a one off where the topic is one that they specifically want to explore.
This retreat is being organised by the Community of Interbeing. We are a growing network of people in the UK who practise mindfulness and aspire to develop peace and happiness in ourselves and in the world by living according to the teachings on global ethics of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. His teachings, which can be followed by people of all ages and any religion or none, are notable for their emphasis on joy, engagement in the world, and integrating the practice of mindfulness into daily life. We are a registered educational charity which offers a programme of courses, retreats and events and encourages and supports local groups that meet to practice mindfulness.
Charney Manor is a peaceful retreat centre surrounded by three acres of beautiful grounds in Oxfordshire and is owned by the Society of Friends. Some parts of the manor house date back to the thirteenth century and with its thirty-five refurbished and comfortable rooms, two of which are adapted for disabled users, and ability to provide a vegan diet, Charney Manor is said to be, "a haven of tranquility where people from across the country can come for reflection, renewal and relaxation".
There are now only shared bedrooms available at Charney Manor with the majority of the bedrooms being en suite and with a number on the ground floor. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor adapted for people with physical disabilities which will be reserved for people requiring wheelchair access but the remainder will be distributed on a first come first served basis. When allocating bedrooms we will assume that you are prepared to share a same sex bedroom and do not need a ground floor bedroom unless you contact us at email@example.com.
We have asked for a vegan diet at Charney Manor and are assured that other diets - gluten/dairy free etc - can be catered for. Please confirm special dietary requirements further on in the booking process.
There will be an opportunity to offer Dana (generosity,giving) for the teachers during the weekend.
The weekend retreat will cost £199 and there are four supported places at £150 for those on low incomes. Assistance with the cost of the supported places will be much appreciated and can be given by paying either of the higher rate fees.
The supported places are intended to be for people who have been practising for at least 12 months with the Community of Interbeing and who are in financial difficulty or who are in receipt of some sort of state benefit. Supported places will be offered on an honesty and first come first served basis.
Payment of the full fee will be needed to book a place on the retreat and in the event of a cancellation before 19th January a refund of the amount paid, less £50 to cover administration fees, will be possible. No refunds will be possible after 19th January.
