A stupendous young musician (Mojo) One of the brightest young talents on the current piping scene (The List)
Jarlath Henderson has made a name for himself as one of the leading exponents of the Uilleann Pipes but let that not limit your idea of what this man is doing with his musical ambitions. On his huge rise to success in his duo with Ross Ainslie thats kept him circumnavigating the world and playing in front of icons such as Nelson Mandela, he has secretly harboured both an exquisite singing voice and skilled guitar and string work. He has a particularly keen ear for the modern arrangements and here presents his debut solo project and an album that will re-shape the way we think folk music should sound. Sneak previews have revealed a stunningly ambitious and well produced manifesto, presenting the songs of his native Ireland and adopted Scotland in sparkling new ways.
His hotly-anticipated solo debut, 'Hearts Broken, Heads Turned', comprises bold yet sensitive arrangements of traditional songs, featuring Henderson on guitar, pipes and whistles, together with his hand-picked line-up of Hamish Napier (keyboards, flute), Innes Watson (fiddle, guitar), Duncan Lyall (double bass) and Andrea Gobbi (soundscapes and modular synth).
Support for the gig comes in the form of funky breakbeats of traditional and not-so-traditional samples provided by Dolphin Boy, a well loved figure in festival circles.
The evening promises to be a genre defying display of the best of Scotland's modern music scene. |
