Abstraction (n.) 1- The quality of dealing with ideas rather than events. 2- The freedom from representational qualities in art.

This spring, jorsTAP will ring true to this definition in the perfectly titled show, Abstraction. In a non-traditional performance space in Fulton Market, jorsTAP will perform a reboot of the previous show, Rackets, wherein dancers will literally turn the way viewers perceive tap dance upside-down. In maintaining their collaborative roots, the company will once again team up with a series of amazing artists to challenge audiences' understanding of tap dance - and art in general. Abstraction will be the fourth installment of collaborative art with the talented painter, David Lee Csicsko. There will also be a guest choreographer, Michelle Dunleavy who is the first person to expose Artistic Director, Kendra Jorstad, to the idea that tap beautifully pairs with other forms of movement and art. jorsTAP is also partnering with the musician, Leslie Beukelman, who will be arranging the music for the show. As this show is called Abstraction, the choreography will inspire the music rather than the music inspire the movement. Abstraction will be just that, an experience that tests the limits of the definition of art with many exciting surprises along the way. So buckle up - or even stand and take it all in - because this show will be a night to remember.
