Valley Art Association kicks off its 50th anniversary celebration with a gala Celestial Carnaval featuring music by 3 Leg Torso and masks on Jan. 23, from 8-11 p.m.
Dance to the music by this popular Portland ensemble that plays a synthesis of chamber music, tango, klezmer, latin and Roma music.
The carnaval will include no-host wine and beer from Urban Decanter (first glass free with admission), work on display by gallery members and Green Cab Artists, a "masquerade" photo booth, fabulous appetizers and other surprises.
The event will raise matching funds for Valley Art's recently awarded $20,000 Metro storefront grant to refurbish the front of its building on Main Street in downtown Forest Grove. Plans for the project, which include new windows and an upgraded look for the gallery's Main Street face, will be unveiled at the gala.
Valley Art Association was established in 1966 by a small group of local artists who were mostly potters. The pottery tradition continues today with classes in a large, fully equipped studio. Other art education opportunities include painting, fiber, collage and mixed media classes, and quilting, photography and creativity groups.
Celestial Carnaval guests are welcome to wear masks or to pick one up at the party. |
