TWO SHOWS! On Friday Feb. 12, 2016, Out by 10 producer, Susan Seliger, Presents Funny Takes on Valentine Love: Storytellers and Musicians: Big Talent in a Small Space.
There are two shows -- that's how much we love Valentine's Day. You can pick either the early show from 7-8:15 PM, or the later show from 8:45-10 PM.
Tickets for each show are sold separately -- they'll sell out fast, so get them now and save. WHERE: The John Strasberg Studio 555 8th Avenue (37-38th streets) Suite 2310, close to many trains (A, C, E, 1, 2, 3, LIRR, NJTransit).
WHEN: Second Friday of the month, First show 7-8:15 PM; second show 8:45-10 PM. STORYTELLERS:
Ophira Eisenberg Ophira Eisenberg, NPR's host of the popular and witty game show, Ask Me Another, (and frequent Moth SLAM host) will tell tales she can't do on the radio, in honor of Valentine's Day and love. She's spent years honing her impeccable comedic timing doing stand-up and a few years lying down in ways she describes in her riotous book, "Screw Everyone: Sleeping My Way To Monogamy." Last time Ophira was at Out by 10, she was minutes away from delivering her son. She's coming back as a new Mom with new tales of love and sleep deprivation to tell if she can stay awake.
Wendy Suzuki, Ph.D. Wendy is a professional brain-lover. As a Professor of Neural Science and Psychology at NYU, she doesn't just study how our brains help us learn she weaves wonderful stories about how that three-pound organ makes us who we are. She mesmerized a recent Moth Grand SLAM audience with her story on "Saying I love You." In honor of Valentine's Day, she'll talk about your brain and love.
MUSICIAN Sean Altman Singer/songwriter/guitarist Sean Altman has performed at the White House twice, shared the stage with Billy Joel, Jon Stewart, Jay Leno, Joey Ramone, Moby (we could go on), co-wrote the theme song for the Emmy-winning PBS-TV series "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?" and is widely regarded as the "Father of a Capella." Sean's original songs dubbed "tuneful and sharply witty" by the LA Times and "satiric gems" by The Washington Post will have you rockin' and rolling in the aisles. He's got a "silky tenor that produced chills" according to The New York Times. He has recorded several albums that range from riotous, irreverent original numbers (the Jewmongous album) to covers of the Beatles and Everly Brothers.
THE DEAL: Our $20 admission fee ($25 at the door) includes FREE wine.
NEW VENUE: John Strasberg Studios, 555 8th Avenue, (37-38) Suite 2310 Our new space is the wonderful Strasberg Studios. No more stairs -- and centrally-located, close to many trains (A, C, E, 1, 2, 3, LIRR, NJTransit).
Yes, THAT Strasberg Studio for method acting that trained the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Scarlet Johansson, Alec Baldwin, Barbra Streisand, Uma Thurman, Sally Field, Jon Voight, to name a few.
THE BACK STORY: Out by 10 Co-Founder and producer, Susan Seliger, hand picks the best musicians, storytellers and multimedia performers to create a night of inspiration (not to mention free wine) the second Friday of the month in an intimate NYC salon-like space. Out by 10 it's a great place to get your culture fast! :<} |
