Resurrection Theatre continues their commitment to thought-provoking and engaging work by presenting the community theater premiere of Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley.
The 2005 winner of the Pulitzer prize for Drama, Doubt is set in a Catholic school in the Bronx, 1964. The story centers on a nun who grows suspicious when a priest begins taking too much interest in the life of the school's first African American student. Set against implementation of the second ecumenical council and the climax of the civil rights movement, Doubt's narrative of progression versus rigidity parallels the ongoing changes in our current political climate, resonating more deeply than ever before.
Featuring Sacramento theater veterans Martha Kight as upright Sister Aloysius and Dean Shellenberger as the accused Father Flynn, Doubt also welcomes bright new faces to the community: Elizabeth Holzman as Sister James and Gloria Jones as Mrs. Muller. Doubt: A Parable will be performed at the Wilkerson Theatre[no comma] at 25th and R Streets in the California Stage Complex. Tickets are available at resurrectiontheatre.com or by calling 916-838-0618.
